Music Memories #1

When I was growing up, my family made frequent trips to Los Angeles to visit family. Every summer we would pile into the car and start down the 5. My parents in the front seats had control over the radio, so my brother and I listened to whatever they listened to. I grew up on classic rock, from all the different sub-genres, as my parents have ecletic tastes in rock music. My mom prefers lighter rock and my dad prefers heavier, so I was exposed to the best of both worlds. Anyways, most of the 5 is out of radio range, so to entertain ourselves we had to play CD's. My parents had The Eagle's Greatest Hits, a two-disk set, and that was what we mainly listened to. Some of my fondest memories and funniest are in those car rides south, listening to Eagles music and bugging my brother and driving my parents crazy.

I have to say that my musical tastes haven't deviated much from that. I listen to a great variety of music, but I greatly prefer stuff with a bit of a rock flavor. Heavy guitar rifts and meaningful lyrics with a solid drum beat are the basis of my taste. I listen to a little bit of techno, but I get tired of it after a while. Pop songs with a rock beat or alternative rock songs can keep my interest for hours. For some reason though, despite my interest in rock music, I have a deep distaste for country music. I am a big fan of John Fogerty and The Eagles, and despite having been told that they are country, I still enjoy their music. Its an interesting personality quirk I suppose. Overall though, my musical interests and tastes have changed very little since my youth.

  1. Nah, the Eagles may be country-influenced, but they're not country ... at least not in my book! It's funny; I don't usually like country either, but I do like some musicians/bands that include some country-style harmonies and such. A little tinge of country can be a good thing.
